Hilariously Honest Job Advert – Would YOU Apply for This Job?

There’s a hilariously honest vacancy description doing its viral rounds on the Internet right now. Posted on Gumtree by soon-to-be restauranteur Justin from Glasgow (you can read the full advert here), it includes lines like “if your idea of a good sandwich is a tuna mayo like your gran makes then please don’t bother responding”, and “the money is [terrible]… don’t ask for more because I don’t have it”. The word ‘brazen’ doesn’t even begin to do it justice!
But after I finished reading, and had given myself a little time to think, I started wondering: Shouldn’t more job adverts be a bit more like this?
How many times in your career history have you started a job, only to find that it’s nothing like it sounded in the description? From unrealistic ‘potential on-target earnings’, to flat-out lies about career progression opportunities… I know that I’ve experienced a few of these, and you probably have too.
So here’s what I’d like to ask: If you were looking for a job in your particular area of expertise, and it stated in brutally honest terms exactly what your working conditions would be (even if some of them weren’t very appealing), then would you be likely to apply for it? And once you’d started the job, would you be inclined to work harder because it lived up to your expectations?
Go ahead, read the advert (here’s the link again), and when you’ve finished, come back here and share your thoughts in the comments section below.
