Ingredients of Award-Winning HR Team Revealed

Every year, The Caterer hands out awards to the individuals, teams and businesses who are shaping the foodservice industry. They call this The Catey Awards, and it has been running since 1984. The award that interests us the most, is the HR Award.

The winners of the 2016 Catey Awards have been announced. This year, the HR Award was sponsored by Contract Options, and was handed to Gary Acheson, and his HR team over at Rapport.

How Rapport Claimed the HR Award at the 2016 Foodservice Cateys

Rapport is a specialist company providing front and back of house guest services. Their fully managed services include reception, concierge, meeting rooms, switchboard and other call services. They believe in creating rapport with clients and guests by anticipating their needs and then providing an outstanding service.

They won the HR award for demonstrating clear vision and focus, according to The Caterer, in their recent announcement. According to the press release, the firm’s HR team has managed to train and develop their team by building a strong team of external specialists. These include an actor who specialises in stage presence, as well as a beauty consultant who helps employees take care of their personal appearance.

Some of the ingredients that make Rapport’s HR department a winning team:

– Clear vision and focus

– Good training and development opportunities

– Wellness and confidence specialists

Rapport employs around 370 people, and claims to put its people at the heart of everything they do. It seems they are practicing what they preach, too – 85% of employees claimed that the company embraces diversity, and 87% felt they had the tools they needed to do a great job.

A Few Words From the Judges

The judges at the awards had some very kind words to say about Rapport’s HR team.

“I was impressed by their values-driven, inspired team and people-focused chief executive”
– Sally Brand, Purple Cubed

“They demonstrated great HR practices that are sustainable and innovative”
– Alison Gilbert, CH&Co Group

“It was very much a team effort that has led to their success”
– Mark Pearce, HR Director

Congratulations to the HR team at Rapport. It looks like you deserve this wonderful reward, and we’re proud to see you delivering strong HR values in the foodservice industry.
