They have also just experienced the successful launch of their new brand – TopLine Film – which went really smoothly due to the whole team being measured on KPIs!

Operating such an organisation naturally requires a team of very talented people. And part of fostering talent, is to frequently review performance, for continuous improvement.

But while the employees at TopLine Comms are indeed very talented, in 2017 they began to suffer the bittersweet pains of a growing business. You see, their success at delivering on promises to clients, meant their business was growing – and this began to put strain on their manual HR administration processes.

Performance data was coming in from all angles, and being stored in different locations

“We were using multiple Word templates to gather all appraisal feedback” says Michaela Lee, Office Manager. “This meant printing an awful lot and having to deal with the admin of shredding the documents after the appraisals. Not only was this highly inefficient, but we definitely weren’t saving many trees, either!”

Performance data was scattered everywhere, and Michaela was finding that she had employee feedback, personal development plans, line manager feedback and anonymous feedback all in different places. Sometimes this meant spreadsheets, sometimes it meant paper files - but it always meant looking in a different location, depending on the type of information required.

And this made it nearly impossible to track the performance of multiple employees effectively.

TopLine Comms decided to centralise their performance data

“We started looking for a centralised HR solution so that we could start to bring all employee data under one roof” explains Michaela, “and in particular, all performance appraisal data. Ideally, we wanted to eliminate paper files, and put everything into one place.”

Michaela quickly got set up with People HR, and immediately took advantage of the Performance functionality. This gave her team a more meaningful way to track and improve performance, and also work towards key company goals – all from one central system!

“We use 360-degree feedback to obtain anonymous observations about employees” she tells us. “Previously, we were paying a separate monthly subscription with another company, just for this one specific purpose. It is now included, along with many other high-impact features, as part of the Performance module within People HR. This means I can gather anonymous feedback; track manager comments; look at employee self-assessments; compare scores and review goals, without ever having to log out of my HR system!”

The new performance system made impact with senior management and employees

But it’s not just HR and senior management where People HR has been making a positive impact for TopLine Comms. Michaela says that since implementing People HR for performance appraisals, feedback from employees has been tremendous.

“Team members say they much prefer having everything in an online HR system” she explains. “They have told me that it is far less tedious than putting a pen to paper, and they have been providing us with more feedback than ever!”

Michaela says that People HR helps drive performance specifically in relation to company goals.

 
 

TopLine Comms are now hitting even more big company goals

“The ‘Goal’ system within People HR really helps identify each employee’s individual targets for the next six months” she says. “This means we can track each of our employees’ progress in-between their appraisals, and we do this in our monthly line manager meetings - which we log in the People HR logbook section.”

Michaela adds that because People HR lets her keep a log of everything, she can easily refer back to information during monthly meetings. She describes this as a refreshing change that wasn’t available to them previously – and it’s proving useful, because it’s helping employees hit their goals better than ever.

“And the more our employees hit their goals” she concludes, “the greater the success and growth of our business!”
