Happy Spring (and Happy Women’s History Month)

Happy Spring

The 1st of March marks many things – the beginning of spring for a start. But did you know that in many places, it also marks the beginning of Women’s History Month?

In America, Women’s History Month is a national celebration, and the nation generally observes a different theme every year. According to the National Women’s History Project, the theme for 2016 Women’s History Month is “Working to Form a More Perfect Union: Honoring Women in Public Service and Government”.

Women’s History Month is likewise officially recognised in the Philippines, with March legally designated as a month where the nation celebrates the role of women throughout history.

Here in the UK, Women’s History Month is not quite so widely celebrated, but that’s not to say it isn’t celebrated at all. Redbridge Library, for example, are launching Women’s History Month 2016 with a full-day event on the 5th March.

Regardless though of whether or not you’ll be celebrating Women’s History Month, I think we can all agree that with the arrival of spring, we’re all looking forward to slightly nicer weather from here on out!
